for Climate, Ecosystem and Fire Applications
How to interpret the maps:
The maps are constructed by checking whether the prediction for a particular element threshold (SPI, ROS and FLI) is exceeded for each map grid cell.
For SPI, values of -1 or less are red, greater than -1 are blue.
For ROS and FLI, threshold demarcates conditions below which 75% of managed fires occurred. Above this threshold is red, below the threshold is blue.
Blue areas indicate a climate conditions conducive to managed burns.
Red areas indicate only 25% of burns occurred under these conditions. This MAY indicate a lower probability of success in general for red areas, but this will also depend on burn objectives. If desired burn window is drier than historical average (for example, in riparian zones), red areas may indicate you are coming into a burn window.
